Recent Funding Successes

In the competitive environment of too many projects chasing too few dollars, exceptional representation is a winning proposition for Capital Partnership clients.

Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act (SAFETEA-LU) Projects

SAFETEA-LU's exclusive category of 'mega projects' is called Projects of Regional and National Significance (PNRS). Only 20 projects nationwide were selected for the supplemental funding section.

The City of Seattle's Alaskan Way Viaduct and Seawall Replacement

This project was not only listed in the PNRS category but received the greatest amount of money: $220 Million.

Funding a deteriorating sea wall in the 4th largest container port that serves as the foundation for a major city viaduct was a sophisticated campaign to link the national interest with a specific Pacific northwest project. Meeting early with DOT, the Secretary's office agreed this was indeed a critical, multi-modal project that deserved special standing and support from them as well.

The Heartland Corridor

Capital Partnerships was a member responsible for launching the initial phases of representation for a second PNRS, the Heartland Corridor: $95 Million.

Above the $90 Million, our client received $30 Million more for roadway improvements accessing the new intermodal yard in Columbus Ohio, the destination of international goods movement from the Port of Norfolk through heightened rail tunnels along the Heartland Corridor.

Other significant SAFETEA-LU client achievements include:

SR 665 and I 71 Interchange, Grove City, Ohio

$11.5 Million
For a new interchange in growing suburb where FedEx's largest Midwest hub is located and residents back-up at least a mile at rush hour. FHWA required the city to add a third lane to the interstate as well. Federal funds allowed the project to jump-up state rankings.

Tiedeman Road Interchange, Preliminary Engineering, Brooklyn, Ohio

$1.5 Million
For preliminary engineering necessary to request state and federal government for construction assistance by an inner-ring Cleveland suburb in '09 reauthorization.

Appropriations Projects

Columbus Regional Airport: Stelzer Road Interchange

$20.5 Million
State DOT discretionary funding was successfully obtained for this client from among projects submitted from across the state. Projects are ranked according to a very complex process and regional stakeholder support is critical. This project was the Central Ohio region's number one project and successfully obtained 50% of the total project cost.

Central Ohio Transit Authority: Multi-modal Terminal

$13.1 Million
A downtown multi-modal terminal for the Columbus transit authority successfully competed against hundreds of statewide highway projects and was awarded $13.1 Million in state funds for the $23.7 Million terminal.

Livermore/Amador County Transit Authority, California

$3.2 Million
An ITS earmark allowed this transit authority to acquire on-board passenger information/communication equipment.

Multi-state short line railroad improvements

$3.5 Million
Rail line funding comes from the Highway Trust Fund. It is difficult to achieve in the current environment when the trust fund dollars are almost nil and highway needs so great. However, working hard with Capitol Hill offices and key committee leaders led to the successful "flexing" of FHWA dollars to our client's rail line rehabilitation needs.

Park and Playground

$350,000
After 8 years in office, this United States Senator had never endorsed and fought for a playground request. This was the very first one ever supported and close to the total amount requested was granted. Cities across the state sought our assistance thereafter in pursuing this source of funds.
