BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST |

1) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting applications for Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grants. Grants will support organizations as they train workers for jobs in environmental fields, including brownfields and waste remediation, environmental health and safety, and waste-water training; in general, programs will likely address solid and hazardous waste management, water quality improvement, and chemical safety. Job training programs should target unemployed and underemployed members of the community in which environmental remediation will be undertaken as a means of addressing both the degraded environment and the disinvestment of local populations that attends to environmental justice concerns. $2.4 million is available with an award ceiling of $200,000. The application deadline is February 13, 2014. Good candidates: Units of state and local government, Native American tribal organizations, nonprofit organizations, and public and nonprofit private institutions of higher education. 2) The American Psychological Foundation runs the Pearson Early Career Program, which provides grants to clinicians working with underserved populations. Applicants must be engaged in “a scientifically-based project in the area of serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, incarcerated or homeless individuals, [or] children with serious emotional disturbance.” The program aims to help early career clinical psychologists and encourages them to engage in lifelong work with underserved populations. A single clinician will be awarded $12,000 to fund their work. The application deadline is December 31, 2013. Good candidates: Psychologists with terminal degrees (EdD, PsyD, or PhD) from accredited universities who are no more than 7 years postdoctoral. For more information, click HERE.
3) The Library Leadership and Management Association offers a John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Award. The award recognizes libraries that have demonstrated effective outreach and communication campaigns to share library resources with surrounding communities and educate about the use value libraries bring to their constituents. Such campaigns might include: “rebranding efforts, the promotion of unique archives, awareness campaigns, and community partnerships.” To be eligible, the highlighted program must have run during the 2013 calendar year or 2012-2013 academic year. Eight prizes of $10,000 will be awarded this year. Applications are due February 14, 2014. Good candidates: Libraries, library friends groups, consulting agencies and service providers; libraries of any size are invited to apply. For more information, click HERE.
4) The Thiel Foundation is in its second year of the 20 Under 20 Thiel Fellowship Program. The program provides $100,000 in two year long grants to twenty young innovative entrepreneurs working in various energy and technology fields. In the past, successful projects have ranged from nuclear and alternative energy to biotechnology, gaming, and software development. Applications may come from individuals or a team of up to four people working collaboratively on a single project. Applications are due December 31, 2013. Good candidates: Applicants must be 19 years or younger by the application due date and are expected to dedicate themselves full-time to the project during the two-year fellowship period.
