BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST |

1) The Institute of Museum and Library Science (IMLS) is accepting applications for National Leadership Grants for Libraries. Leadership grants are meant to address challenges faced by libraries and archives; successful applicants will focus clearly on the topic of early childhood learning (ages 0-8), providing solutions that address issues such as chronic school absence, summer reading objectives, and school readiness as outlined in the Campaign for Grade Level Reading. Grants may be grounded in one of the following three areas: advancing digital resources, research, or demonstration. Additionally, three types of grants may be sought, including grants to conduct fully developed projects, grants to plan projects (identify partners, develop prototypes, etc.) and grants to convene a national forum on challenges and solutions faced by museums and archives.40 grants will be distributed to awardees, with a funding ceiling of $500,000. The application deadline is February 1, 2013. Good candidates: Non-profit organizations or any unit of state or local government that exists in the United States and its territories; additionally, the organization must qualify as a library or parent organization (school, university, state agency, municipality, etc.). 2) The National Science Foundation (NSF) lists the following grant opportunity: Research Coordination Networks Grant (RCN). RCN grants facilitate communication and research collaboration among individuals and research teams “across disciplinary, organizational, geographic and international boundaries.” Successful applicants will coordinate their network and application around a broad research theme or topic, technology or research framework, or methodology. Applicants will select a specific targeted track to which they will apply, including but not limited to tracks for Geosciences, Polar Programs, Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences, etc. The program can allocate up to $17,500,000 in funding to 25 awardees. The full proposal deadline is March 4, 2013. Good candidates: Academic institutions and non-profit, non-academic organizations (independent museums, observatories, research labs, professional societies and similar organizations in the U.S. associated with educational or research activities). 3) The National Science Foundation (NSF) is also hosting a competition for grants dedicated to Building Community and Capacity for Data-Intensive Research in the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) and in Education and Human Resources (EHR). Grants will “enable research communities to develop visions, teams, and capabilities dedicated to creating new, large-scale, next-generation data resources and relevant analytic techniques to advance fundamental research for the SBE and EHR areas of research.” Projects may propose the creation of databases, building community infrastructure to access databases or other analytic tools and technologies, and building research communities. $5 million is available to up to 25 successful applicants.
