WELCOME TO GRANTS ALERT, VOL. 47

Our e-newsletter is designed to highlight significant federal and private funding opportunities, particularly in the grant development fields where we specialize.  Among these are:

  • Public Works
  • Economic Development
  • Environment, Energy
  • Health and Human Services
  • Justice, Homeland Security and FEMA
  • The Arts

In this “GRANTS ALERT” edition, you will be able to pinpoint a sampling of current funding options that will benefit your community, association, company, client, and perhaps even your children!  A link will connect you to more details.

BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST

1) Patagonia, retailer of outdoor clothes and recreation gear, offers grants to nonprofit organizations working on environmental issues, including efforts to preserve habitat, stabilize ecosystems, and foster biodiversity. The company is especially interested in actions directed at restoring native fish populations. Successful proposals will mobilize grassroots and activist groups with a direct action plan for change; plans should have measurable outcomes and strategies for assessment of the project’s effectiveness. The award ceiling is $12,000. The next application cycle ends April 30, 2014. Good candidates: 501(c)(3) status non-profits in the U.S. and around the world, but some funding exclusions apply. For more information, click HERE.

2) Arts Midwest opened a grant call for the Shakespeare in American Communities Program. Grants are made to theater companies around the country to fund performances of Shakespeare’s works for middle- and high-school student audiences from underserved communities. In addition to the performance, theater companies will conduct related educational activities such as acting workshops, post-performance talkbacks, or seminars on a topic related to the play. Successful applicants will receive $25,000 to fund the production; awards will be made to approximately 40 theater companies. The application deadline is February 25, 2015; an optional letter of intent to apply is due January 28, 2015. Good candidates: Non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations that have produced Shakespeare or a classically-based repertoire in the last five years. For more information, click HERE.

3) The International Reading Association (IRA), a literacy promotion network, seeks proposals for their Teacher as Researcher grant program. Grants allow teachers from any grade level pre-K through grade 12 to conduct research related to literacy. Research findings will be published or presented at the International Reading Association Annual Conference—for example, recent funded studies include “Redefining Balanced Literacy: How to Meet Grade-Level Expectations Using Whole-Class Close Reading, Differentiated Groups, and Centers,” and “Bilingual Bridges: Integrating a Second Language with CCSS ELA Standards in the Primary Grades.” Small grants of $1,000-4,000 will be made in order to fund as many teachers as possible. The application deadline has been extended until January 15, 2015. Good candidates: Practicing pre-K-12 teachers with full- or part-time classroom teaching responsibilities and members in good standing of IRA. For more information, click HERE.

Purse strings are tightening and budgets will be cut, but the federal government will continue to spend billions of dollars. A lot of these funds will be accessed by those who have experienced help in seeking grants, contracts and program funds!
