BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST

1) The Fish and Wildlife Service is promoting the Great Lakes Fish and Wildlife Restoration Act, and awarding $2 million in grants to successful applicants. The Act encourages “cooperative conservation, restoration and management of the fish and wildlife resources and their habitats in the Great Lakes Basin.” Applicants may propose activities that include wildlife protection, restoration, maintenance of healthy habitats, as well as research projects related to those activities. The application deadline is December 15, 2014. Good candidates: Local, county, and state governments; Native American tribal governments and organizations; higher education institutions; and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. For more information, click HERE.

2) The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reopened their annual Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to support the health and safety of firefighters and EMS personnel. Grants may serve a number of purposes, including training for operations and safety, vehicle acquisition, and joint and regional efforts to improve cooperation and interoperability. $300 million is available with an award ceiling of $3.4 million; FEMA expects to make nearly 3,000 awards. The application deadline is December 5, 2014. Good candidates: Fire departments, EMS organizations, and state fire training academies. For more information, click HERE.

3) The Lawrence Foundation is a private family foundation that makes grants with a focus on three broad areas: environment, education, and human services, including health and disaster relief. The Foundation supports both single year programs and multi-year efforts. The application deadline occurs twice a year, on April 30 and November 1. Good candidates: 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, schools, and libraries. The Lawrence Foundation will consider a wide variety of applicants and projects, but there is a list of non-fundable projects, including requests for computer and other equipment, recreation programs, performance art programs, lobbying and voter related activities, and others on the website. No award ceiling has been specified. For more information, click HERE.
