BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST |
|
| |
1) The Fund for National Projects, run by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, offers grants to non-profit organizations working in the performing arts such as dance, jazz, and theater; the Foundation stresses that projects should aim to strengthen the national performing arts infrastructure. To be successful, projects should “engage a broad constituency, occur once (or periodically) rather than annually, and have the potential to significantly impact a field, including research projects assessing the national health of professional nonprofit arts groups or of individual professional artists.” $1 million is available with awards ranging from $60,000 to $200,000 (no more than 40% of the project’s total cost). The deadline to submit a letter of inquiry online is February 27, 2015. Good candidates: Non-profit organizations and consortia. For more information, click HERE.
2) Bloomberg Philanthropies recently launched a Public Arts Challenge, a challenge that asks city mayors to work with local artists in the creation of temporary art projects that “demonstrate close collaboration between artists or arts organizations and city government.” Applicants should have strategies to engage local audiences, and will mobilize public-private partnerships to ensure the project’s success. At least three cities will receive awards of up to $1 million for fund their projects over two years. The application deadline is December 15, 2014. Good candidates: Eligible cities have populations of at least 30,000 people; projects are collaborative and, although artists and other organizations will be involved with the project, the lead applicant for the award should be a city mayor or chief executive for a host city. For more information, click HERE.
3) The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) offers its Jazz Masters Fellowship Event, an event that celebrates the fellowship awardees and the art form of jazz by assisting organizations as they coordinate a performance recognizing the NEA honor. With this event, the Arts Endowment also hopes to “increase public and global awareness of jazz and its important place in American culture through the NEA Jazz Masters' voices; preserve this art form and nurture its growth, development, and evolution; and reach and engage current and future jazz audiences.” The event must take place in Washington D.C. during the month of April, jazz appreciation month. The award ceiling is $300,000. The application deadline is December 9, 2014. Good candidates: Public and private institutions of higher education, independent school districts, special district governments, non-profit organizations, tribal, city, county and state governments. Purse strings are tightening and budgets will be cut, but the federal government will continue to spend billions of dollars. A lot of these funds will be accessed by those who have experienced help in seeking grants, contracts and program funds!
