BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST |
|
| |
1) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting applications for free Smart Growth America technical assistance workshops. A limited number of successful applicants will have access to workshops that provide technical assistance for qualified communities seeking healthy, economically and environmentally sustainable development. Workshops are 1-2 days long and will address one of 12 different topics, including: Smart Growth 101, Planning for Economic and Fiscal Health, Cool Planning: Local Strategies to Slow Climate Change, Parking Audits, Walkability Audits, and more. Communities may apply for more than one workshop (though separate applications must be submitted for each). Proposals are due October 25, 2012. Good candidates: Any unit or subdivision of local government, Indian tribe, or regional government.

2) The EPA is also currently offering funding for the Brownfields Area-Wide Planning Grants in order to support the assessment, cleanup, and reuse of a brownfield site. The agency is offering $4 million in grant assistance with an award ceiling of $200,000. This grant has an area-wide focus; as such, successful proposals will demonstrate how funding will be used to support “specific areas affected by a single large or multiple [connected] brownfield sites, such as a neighborhood, downtown district, city block or local commercial corridor.” Proposals will be evaluated based on the economic and environmental needs of the community in which the brownfield is sited, vision for beneficial reuse of the land and ability to achieve that vision, and partnerships and other resources that can be brought to the project in addition to the EPA-funded grant. The proposal application deadline is February 10, 2012. Good candidates: Non-profit organizations, any unit or subdivision of local government, Indian tribe, or regional government; individuals, for-profit organizations, and FY10 EPA Brownfields AWP Pilot Program recipients are not eligible.

2) The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is taking applications for the Preventative Medicines and Public Health Training Grant Program. The grant was developed to encourage the growth of preventative and population-focused medicine through the recruitment of physicians and the development of education programs, residencies and internships. Grants may address a variety of needs, including student trainee support, faculty and curriculum development. $3.8 million will be awarded to 9 recipients (award ceiling of $600,000). The application closing date is November 28, 2012. Good candidates: State governments, private, public, and state controlled higher education institutions, and non-profit organizations.

Purse strings are tightening and budgets will be cut, but the federal government will continue to spend billions of dollars. A lot of these funds will be accessed by those who have experienced help in seeking grants, contracts and program funds!
