BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST

1) The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development is hosting a National Disaster Resilience Competition. The competition will provide nearly $1 billion to be distributed to 40 successful applicants. Grants will support “innovative resilience projects at the local level while encouraging communities to adopt policy changes and activities that plan for the impacts of extreme weather and climate change and rebuild affected areas to be better prepared for the future.” The application deadline is October 27, 2015. Good candidates: State and local government agencies from regions that have experienced a Presidentially-declared major disaster in 2011, 2012, or 2013. For more information, click HERE.

2) The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is funding the Dialogues on the Experiences of War program, part of NEH’s Standing Together: The Humanities and the Experience of War initiative. Proposals will employ research in the humanities to help understand the experience of war and “promote discussion and deepened understanding of the experience of those Americans affiliated with the armed services, whether active duty or veterans.” Grantees will convene discussion groups that are mostly comprised of military veterans. The application deadline is September 15, 2015. Good candidates: State, local, and tribal governments, public and private colleges and universities, and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. For more information, click HERE.

3) The National Science Foundation (NSF) is accepting applications from higher education institutions for its Scholarships in Science, Math, Engineering, and Technology Program (S-STEM). NSF offers a number of funding opportunities to better prepare students to become literate and proficient in the fields of science, math, engineering, and technology—these scholarships are meant to (1) “increase the number of low-income academically talented students with demonstrated financial need,” (2) “improve the education of future scientists, engineers, and technicians, with a focus on academically talented low-income students,” and (3) “advance understanding of the factors or curricular and co-curricular activities affecting the success of low-income students.” Up to 70 million in total funding is available with 80 awards expected to be made. The application deadline is September 22, 2015. Good candidates: Public and private universities and colleges. For more information, click HERE.
