BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST |
|
| |
1) The Department of Justice (DOJ) offers Community Oriented Policing Programs (COPS) and the COPS Hiring Program is now taking applications for grants. This program awards federal grant money to law enforcement agencies in order to hire new career police officers at the entry level (or rehire officers laid off due to budget cuts). Agencies may request additional positions and greater funding depending on the size of their service population and the current size of their police force. The COPS program can provide up to 75% of the salary and benefits for granted positions with the winning law enforcement agencies matching the remaining 25%. These awards may also be used to hire School Resource Officers. The award ceiling is $3.125 million. The application deadline is June 23, 2014. Good candidates: State, local and tribal law enforcement agencies. For more information, click HERE.
2) The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Utilities Programs released a call for their Community Connect Grant Program. This program aims to bring broadband Internet service to rural and underserved communities. The successful applicants will offer broadband to rural communities, a utility that “fosters economic growth, and delivers enhanced educational, health care, and public safety services.” $13 million is available to successful applicants, with an award ceiling of $3 million. The application deadline is July 7, 2014. Good candidates: Public housing authorities; independent school districts; public, private, and state institutions of higher education; city, county, special district, and Native American tribal governments; for profit businesses; and nonprofit organizations. For more information, click HERE.
3) The Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Administration for Children and Families invites applications for Early Head Start Expansion and EHS Child Care Partnership Grants. Grants expand Early Head Start (EHS) Services through a partnership with local childcare services, providing high quality childcare to low-income families with toddlers and/or infants. “New or existing EHS grantees will partner with local center-based and family childcare providers and, through activities including training and technical assistance, management, and the delivery of comprehensive services, support them in meeting the Early Head Start Program Performance Standards.” Awards will range from $750,000 to nearly $55 million. Good candidates: Public housing authorities; independent school districts; public, private, and state institutions of higher education; city, county, special district, and Native American tribal governments; for profit businesses; and nonprofit organizations. Applications are due August 20, 2014. For more information, click HERE.

Purse strings are tightening and budgets will be cut, but the federal government will continue to spend billions of dollars. A lot of these funds will be accessed by those who have experienced help in seeking grants, contracts and program funds!
