BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST |
|
| |
1) The Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education is accepting applications for the School Climate Transformation Grant Program. Two kinds of grants are available—those made to local educational agencies (LEAs) and those made to state educational agencies (SEAs). Both kinds of organizations are invited to apply for this grant to address climate issues in schools such as bullying, violence, and other disruptive behavior in the classroom. Grants will aid the winning agencies as they “develop, enhance, or expand statewide systems of support for, and technical assistance to, local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools implementing an evidence-based multi-tiered behavioral framework for improving behavioral outcomes and learning conditions for all students.” More than $23 million is available to LEAs with an individual award ceiling set at $750,000. $7.3 million is available to SEAs with an individual award ceiling set at $400,000. The application deadline for both is June 23, 2014. Good candidates: State educational agencies (SEAs), local educational agencies (LEAs) and consortia of LEAs. For examples of effective interventions that would be supported by the grant and for additional information, click HERE and HERE.
2) The Department of Treasury funds Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITCs). Such clinics work with low income taxpayers to resolve disputes with the IRS; in addition, they work with taxpayers with limited English language skills to educate about their rights and responsibilities as taxpayers. The grants allow these services, which include education, representation, and advocacy, to be offered at a greatly reduced rate or free of charge. $10 million is available to successful applicants; individual awards will range from $1,000 to $100,000. The application deadline is July 20, 2014. Good candidates: Public, private, and state institutions of higher education, and nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status. For more information, click HERE.
3) The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released a call for grant applications for Minority Youth Violence Prevention: Integrating Public Health and Community Policing Approaches (MYVP). MYVP programs are collaborations between public health and law enforcement agencies (and may include additional partnerships); these collaborations are aimed at reducing violence, addressing both public safety and public health concerns by targeting male minority youth populations aged 10 to 18. Successful applicants will engage or modify existing violence prevention and crime reduction models (such as the CDC problem-solving model or the COPS office Scanning, Analysis, Response, and Assessment problem-solving model) as they develop interventions that are appropriate for the communities in which they work. Awards will range from $300,000 to $400,000. Good candidates: State, local, and tribal governments; governments of U.S. territories; local public health agencies; state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies; nonprofit organizations; institutions of higher education; hospitals; and for-profit businesses (with some stipulations—click the link below). Applications are due June 13, 2014. For more information, click HERE.
