BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST

1) The Department of Defense (DOD) released a call for applications for Electronic Absentee System for Elections (EASE) 2.0 grants. EASE grants aim to enhance the voting experience of overseas and military voters who may face several difficulties, including accessing ballots and returning them on time to meet election deadlines. This research-based program seeks to determine obstacles and solutions to facilitate voting and, this year, the grants will focus on two areas: "the development of online ballot delivery tools and the establishment of single points of contact (POC) in state election offices." $10.2 million is available with an award ceiling of $8 million. The deadline for applications is June 24, 2013. Good candidates: State, local, and tribal and territorial governments may submit applications. For more information, CLICK HERE.

2) The Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Federal and State Technology Partnership Program is accepting applications for funding. Funds can be used “to conduct outreach and provide technical assistance services to technology-based small business owners.” $1.9 million in total funding is available to 25 awardees ($95,000 to each awarded organization). The application deadline is June 10, 2013. This grant opportunity has a cost-sharing element and only one proposal per state is allowed (with a letter of endorsement from the state’s Governor).  Good candidates: State and local Economic Development Agencies, colleges and universities, and small business development centers; others may also be eligible. For more information, CLICK HERE.

3) The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) released a call for participants in the NIDA Research “Center of Excellence” Grant Program. This program seeks research centers that are innovative, bridging several scientific disciplines such as behavioral, biomedical, social, and clinical science. Projects should be visionary in scope with a coherent research paradigm related to drug abuse and addiction research: “NIDA Centers are expected to be scientifically innovative and provide the next generation of ideas and approaches. It is expected that a Center will transform knowledge in the sciences it is studying and be at the cutting edge of science. Incremental work, though valuable, should not be the focus of Center activities.” Selected centers will serve as information hubs, providing outreach and research resources to others in the field. Application budgets are not limited. The deadline for initial letters of intent is August 25, 2013. Good candidates: State, local, and Native American tribal governments, independent school districts, public and private higher education institutions, housing authorities, for-profit and non-profit organizations and small businesses. Purse strings are tightening and budgets will be cut, but the federal government will continue to spend billions of dollars. A lot of these funds will be accessed by those who have experienced help in seeking grants, contracts and program funds!
