  BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST  
 

1) The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation provides grants for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, research, and community outreach. Four different grant areas will be funded: (1) STEM projects in higher education, especially proposals that seek to draw students from underrepresented groups into the field, (2) community outreach and public understandings of science and technology, (3) digital information and technology, and (4) economic performance and quality of life, which focus on expanding “knowledge of how particular industries function, encourage better communication between citizens and their local governments, and focus scholarly and public attention on the issues and challenges faced by contemporary working families.” Grants will be made in the range of $125,000. Applications are accepted on a rolling bases; submit a letter of inquiry to find out if your project is a good fit. Good candidates: 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. 2) The U.S. Department of Defense’s (DOD) Army Research Office offers grants for Basic and Applied Scientific Research. This call is a broad agency announcement for research on defense from the fields of: “material sciences; ballistics and aeromechanics sciences; information sciences; human sciences; survivability, lethality, and vulnerability assessment and analysis; chemistry; electronics; physics; environmental sciences; life sciences; mechanical sciences; mathematical sciences; computing sciences and network sciences.”  No funding amount has been specified. The application deadline is March 31, 2017. Good candidates: Educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and commercial organizations engaged in Army defense and operational capacities research and/or experimentation. 3) The U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Employment and Training Administration is accepting applications for YouthBuild grants. The YouthBuild program financially supports the “provision of education, occupational skills training, and employment services to disadvantaged youth in their communities.” $76 million is available, with most grants ranging from $700,000 to $1.1 million. The application deadline is June 5, 2015. Good candidates: Public and non-profit organizations that serve youth. For more information, click HERE.
