1) Target Foundation makes Arts, Culture and Design in Schools grants to schools and nonprofit organizations that bring art education to students in grades K-12. Successful programs will “enhance the classroom curricula by bringing arts and cultural experiences such as in-school performances, artist-in-residency programs, and workshops to schools.” Funded programs must have a curricular component, but may take place during or after school hours. $2,000 grants are available to a variety of organizations across the United States. The application deadline is April 30, 2014. Good candidates: non-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) status and K-12 educational institutions. For more information, click HERE.
2) The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Violent Gang and Gun Crime Reduction Program offers grants to keep neighborhoods safe. To reduce gun and gang violence, Project Safe Neighborhoods task forces will bring together local, state, and federal law enforcement and supportive community members and organizations; the task force will work with a district U.S. Attorney who will lead the task force as it develops “partnerships; strategic planning, research integration, and crime analysis; training; outreach; and accountability—to address specific gun crime and gang violence in the most violent neighborhoods.” The award ceiling for successful applicant agencies is $500,000 and the application deadline is May 12, 2014. Good candidates: Institutions of higher education, state, local, and Native American tribal governments, non-profit organizations, and fiscal agents for U.S. Attorney districts. For more information, click HERE.
3) The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is currently providing three grant opportunities to support and strengthen national transit infrastructure and prevent risks associated with potential terrorist attacks. Each of the three programs should support national preparedness goals through the sustaining capabilities in the risk prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery mission areas. The first of the three grant opportunities, the Transit Security Grant Program (TSGP), funds passenger transit operations, including city and commuter busses, ferries, and passenger rail services. $90 million is available through the TSGP program to all eligible transportation agencies. The second, the Intercity Passenger Rail (IPR) program, provides up to $10 million to Amtrak to strengthen its infrastructure and improve national preparedness measures to increase public safety. The third, the Port Security Grant Program (PSGP), provides $100 million to “support maritime transportation infrastructure activities,” including addressing U.S. Coast Guard identified port vulnerabilities. State, local, and private maritime partnersin eligible port areas are invited to apply for PSGP grants. Applications for all three grants are due May 23, 2014.
