The program supports filmmakers as they create nonfiction works that bring the world to American viewers, challenging their ideas and bringing diverse cultures into focus. Although films can vary in length and subject matter, “The proposed film must be analytical and deeply grounded in humanities scholarship.” Individuals or teams of filmmakers may be awarded up to $75,000 for development awards and $650,000 for production awards. The application deadline is June 10, 2015. Good candidates: State, tribal, and local governments, private and public higher education institutions, and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. For more information, click HERE.
2) The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Agency (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for “Now is the Time” Project AWARE-Community grants. Successful applicants may win up to $125,000 a year for three years, with $8.6 million in total program funding available. “Now is the Time” grants engage a variety of constituents within local communities to improve mental health literacy and advocacy, especially among those that serve young adults; to that aim, the program “supports the training of teachers and a broad array of actors who interact with youth through their programs at the community level, including parents, law enforcement, faith-based leaders, and other adults, in Mental Health First Aid or Youth Mental Health First Aid.” The application deadline is May 1, 2015. Good candidates: State, local, and tribal governments and organizations, and non-profit organizations, including education agencies. For more information, click HERE.
3) The Bank of America Charitable Foundation will soon open two grant competitions to address hunger and housing issues in regions where Bank of America has a strong presence. “The upcoming housing solicitation will focus on preserving neighborhoods by: creating better money habits and financial stability; accessing affordable housing; preparing future homeowners; ensuring homeowner retention; and rehabbing bank-owned properties. The hunger solicitation will focus on providing access to critical food supplies and services to feed individuals, children and families.” The deadline for the housing grant application is May 8, 2015; the deadline for the hunger grant application is August 7, 2015. No specific funding amount has been given at this time. Good candidates: 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations in Bank of America serving areas. For more information, click HERE.
