BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST

1) The Department of Justice (DOJ) is accepting applications for the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program (BCJI). The BCJI program seeks to implement place-based criminal justice strategies that bring multiple community stakeholders together to focus on crime “hotspots”—areas within a community where criminal activity is focused. Collaboration may come from various sectors, including “federal and local agencies, tribes, the private sector, philanthropic and non-profit organizations, and across issues including crime, housing, health, education, workforce development, transportation, and business.” The aim is not just to police crime, but to invest in the community and its infrastructure to prevent future crime; widespread community support and participation in the initiative is an important part of the process. Awards may be given in two areas: 15 planning grants will be made with an award ceiling of $175,000 each; 3 implementation grants will be given with an award ceiling of $1 million each. The application deadline is April 20, 2015. Good candidates: State, county, and city governments as well as federally recognized Native American tribal governments, and non-profit organizations. For more information, click HERE.

2) The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released a call for Fire Prevention and Safety Grants (FP&S) as part of its Assistance to Firefighters Grants program. Grants may be awarded in one of two categories: (1) Fire Prevention and Safety (education, code enforcement, for example) and (2) Research and Development (including clinical studies, database development, and product development).  $34 million in total funding is available; 100 awards are expected. The application deadline is April 17, 2015. Good candidates: Fire departments, national, local, tribal, and state organizations, community organizations with fire prevention experience, and non-profit organizations. For more information, click HERE.

3) The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is accepting applications for its Building Demand for the Arts program. The program fosters engagement with the community to help new audiences find and appreciate the performing arts, including jazz, theater, and dance. “The grants are intended to promote deeper partnerships, longer relationships, and new kinds of conversation and cooperation between organizations and artists.” Artists and their collaborating organizations will work jointly to submit a proposal. There is an award ceiling of $40,000 for exploration grants; implementation grants have an award ceiling of $110,000. Applicants may apply for only one type of grant. The deadline for letters of intent is April 24, 2015. Good candidates: Artists, dance companies, theaters, presenting organizations, and service organizations. For more information, click HERE.
