Nearly $831 million will be awarded to 56 winning applicants. The application closing date is May 4, 2012, but applicants must submit their eligibility requirements no later than April 27, 2012. Last year more than 300 women were awarded scholarships. The application closing date is March 30, 2012. Good candidates: U.S. citizens that are low income women aged 50 or older. Successful candidates must be enrolled in an accredited school or technical training program. For more information, CLICK HERE.
4) Smart Growth America offers free technical assistance to successful applicants in pursuit of smart community growth. Funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this program allocates technical assistance to help applicants learn "how to develop local solutions to help their communities grow in ways that benefit families and businesses while protecting the environment and preserving a sense of place." Technical assistance includes access to 1 or 2 day workshops on smart zoning, planning for economic health, sustainable land use, improving walkability and other smart growth strategies as well as collaboration with an on-site contractor team that will meet with community leaders and discuss ways to achieve community goals. The application process has closed for last year; this year's deadline is likely to be in October 2012. Good candidates include state, local, regional, and tribal governments (and non-profits that have partnered with a governmental entity). Applications from rural, suburban, and urban communities are encouraged. For more information, CLICK HERE.
Purse strings are tightening and budgets will be cut, but the federal government will continue to spend billions of dollars. A lot of these funds will be accessed by those who have experienced help in seeking grants, contracts and program funds!
