1) The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) have opened a call for applications to their Smart Policing Initiative. The initiative provides training and resources to law enforcement agencies in order to respond to crime in effective and efficient ways based on data and analysis. Applicants are expected to “enlist a research partner, demonstrate the ability to collect and analyze data, and incorporate realistic and meaningful performance measures to access the effectiveness of their efforts.” In addition, agencies are encouraged to plan for ways to build good relationships with citizens and working community partnerships. $4.2 in funding is available, with an award ceiling of $700,000. The application deadline is March 9, 2015. Good candidates: State, county, and city governments as well as federally recognized Native American tribal governments. For more information, click HERE.
2) The Rural Health Value Program, run through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), informs rural health care workers about changes in policy and healthcare practices; the program also provides technical assistance to improve health care delivery in rural communities. Proposed projects may include those that focus on: “direct health care delivery, formation of networks to gain economies of scale and shared knowledge, implementation of quality improvement strategies, and expansion of health care service delivery via telehealth.” $500,000 in total program funding is available. The application deadline is March 23, 2015. Good candidates: Public, private, and non-profit organizations, State and local governments, non-profit organizations. For more information, click HERE.
3) College For Every Student (CFES) is an organization that helps underserved students attend and complete college successfully. The organization is currently accepting applications from interested schools for Closing the Gap Awards. Closing the Gap Awards fully fund two schools and partially fund three additional schools as they implement high impact practices that help low-income students attend college and attain a career. Such practices include mentorship, leadership through service, and “pathways to college”—a program that exposes middle and high school students to college campuses, admission processes, and other facets of higher education. Fully funded schools will receive $25,000 every year for three years; three additional schools will receive $12,500 with the expectation that donors will contribute and match that amount. The application deadline is March 1, 2015. Good candidates: Middle and high schools located in the United States in which 50% or more of the students are from households classified as low-income.
