BELOW ARE A FEW GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST |
|
| |
1) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting applications for Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grants. Grants will support organizations as they train workers for jobs in environmental fields, including brownfields and waste remediation, environmental health and safety, and waste-water training; in general, programs will likely address solid and hazardous waste management, water quality improvement, and chemical safety. Job training programs should target unemployed and underemployed members of the community in which environmental remediation will be undertaken as a means of addressing both the degraded environment and the disinvestment of local populations that attends to environmental justice concerns. $2.4 million is available with an award ceiling of $200,000. The application deadline is February 13, 2014. Good candidates: Units of state and local government, Native American tribal organizations, nonprofit organizations, and public and nonprofit private institutions of higher education. For more information, click HERE.
2) The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and its partners currently invite applications for the Five Star/Urban Waters Restoration Program. The award provides grants to community partners in the service of “wetland, forest, riparian and coastal habitat restoration; stormwater management, outreach, and stewardship, with a particular focus on water quality; and watersheds as well as the habitats they support.” Five Star/Urban Waters Restoration grants are public-private ventures in which several organizations come together, offering different funding opportunities addressing differing environmental and community needs. There are six different grant groupings that applicants may apply to—each has its own requirements and funding ranges. For example, the PG&E Nature Restoration Trust provides $90,000 in grants to restore habitats and enhance habitat stewardship in PG&E service areas. Another program, FedEx EarthSmart Outreach offers $400,000 for urban conservation projects. Click the link below for details on each of the grants, including eligible participants, program requirements and funding levels. Applications are due February 5, 2014. For more information, click HERE.
3) The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) offers Challenge America Fast-Track Awards to use art to foster community development among underserved populations, including “those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability.” Applications may attend to one of the following two categories: engaging the community in the arts and/or improving the livability of the neighborhood. Eligible projects may win funding to bring guest artists into a community, build an arts or civic center, or restore or renovate an existing cultural center, for example. $10,000 will be awarded to successful applicants with a $10,000 match expected. Applications are due May 8, 2014. Good candidates: Arts foundations, non-profit organizations, and public and private entities. For more information, click HERE.

Purse strings are tightening and budgets will be cut, but the federal government will continue to spend billions of dollars. A lot of these funds will be accessed by those who have experienced help in seeking grants, contracts and program funds!
