TRANSPORTATION, HUD BUDGET ALLOCATIONS RECEIVE MORE CUTS |
Following this week's news regarding House committee meetings to determine the fiscal year 2012 budget, House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers provided more information regarding the division of allocated funds among the subcommittees.
The House Appropriations Subcommittee for Transportation, Housing, Urban Development and related agencies will allocate only $47.655 billion for 2012, a funding level that is significantly less than the $55.367 billion requested for 2011 and represents a 13.9% decrease in funding. Moreover, during the fiscal year 2010, $67.9 billion was allocated to the DOT, leaving next year's funding at nearly 30% smaller than fiscal year 2010 allocations. This budget shows that House Appropriations Chairman Rogers is suggesting much deeper cuts on transportation than the Obama administration hopes to see. However, the Transportation, HUD and related agencies subcommittee is not the only subcommittee to see steep cuts in funding; of the 12 subcommittees, all but those directly related to security will receive cuts in the 2012 fiscal year.
