Virginia Asks Citizens to Pay More for Transportation

It took almost 15 years, but last week the Virginia Legislature voted on a 10 year, $3 Billion Transportation Plan when 2 weeks before, it was slated for defeat. Locally-imposed taxes leveraged with the $ 3 Billion in bonding will allow dollars to quickly flow to gridlocked Northern Virginia, in particular. Money is locked into a dedicated fund that can not be used for any other use.

Indiana Decides Not to Ask Citizens to Pay via New Toll Roads

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels met such steep opposition to plans for two additional toll roads in the state, that he pulled back one and scaled back the other to just 10 miles.  The 2006 $3.8 Billion lease of the Indiana Toll Road is not impacted by this decision. The proposed 50 mile Illiana Expressway was reduced to 10 miles last week.  And a new road around the southern portion of Indianapolis was scrapped. A recent hearing in Shelby County was attended by 1500 people and more were turned away by the Fire Marshall!
